103,000 of the vaccines provided were boosters.
The HSE broke its daily vaccination record and provided 108,000 vaccines on Tuesday (21 December).
HSE CEO Paul Reid shared the update in a tweet on Wednesday morning.

“Another record day in the vaccination & booster programme yesterday,” he said.
“108,000 vaccines in total administered in one day (103,000 boosters). That’s 186,000 vaccines administered in just 2 days.
“1.77M boosters & 3rd doses done. Thanks to all who are vaccinating & the public,” he concluded.
The record comes as the Government continues to ramp up the booster and vaccination programme in the country.
Select members of the public are now able to schedule their own booster vaccine appointments at a small number of clinics through the HSE.
People can avail of a booster at a vaccination centre using the self-scheduler if they are:
- aged 40 and older.
- pregnant and aged 30 and over.
- living in a nursing home or a long-term healthcare facility.
- a healthcare worker aged 30 and over.
- aged 30 or over and have an underlying condition.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said that it would be “very likely” that booster doses may be required for European travel in 2022.
“For anyone who’s wondering about whether or not they should get the third dose or get the booster… there really are three very good reasons,” he said during a briefing.
“The first one… is these vaccines protect you against the risk of severe illness, hospitalisation and death.
“Secondly, if you are a close contact and you’ve had the three jabs, you only have to restrict your movements for five days instead of ten.
“Thirdly, at a European level, the Digital Covid Certificates are going to be reissued in the New Year.
“It’s very likely that in order to travel in spring and summer, you’ll need to have the new Digital Covid Cert which is the evidence that you’ve been boosted, that you’ve had the third dose.
“So, if people are planning or looking ahead towards overseas travel within the European Union in spring or summer, you need to get this third dose.
“It’s very much in your interest to do so.”
