Terrible news from Brazil this morning.

As many as 300 workers are missing after a collapse at an iron-ore mine in Brazil, according to reports.

Nine people have already been confirmed dead at the mine in the Minas Gerais state, according to the BBC, but authorities at the scene have said that there is little chance of finding the missing persons alive. It is expected that hundreds of people will eventually be confirmed dead.

The disaster began when a dam collapsed at the mine, resulting in a mudslide which travelled through the mine, as well as the neighbouring village, destroying houses.

Those affected include miners, as well as support staff on location — such as cleaners and cafeteria workers.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro posted on his official Twitter account to say: “Our greatest concern at this time is to meet any victims of this serious tragedy.”
