Infant dies after being hit by jeep in Roscommon

Tragic news.

An infant has died following a collision with a jeep in Roscommon on Friday, 19 August.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal road traffic collision that took place near Ballinagare shortly after 9am on Friday morning.

The infant, a male, received treatment at the scene but was later pronounced as deceased.

His body was later taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

No other injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

A technical examination of the scene has been completed by Forensic Collision Investigators. A family liaison officer has been appointed to support the family of the victim.

Gardaí are appealing to the public for witnesses to come forward and for any road users with video footage – including dash-cam – to make this available to them.
