Ireland ranks in the top five on the list of countries with the most job satisfaction

Most of us, it would seem, are happy in our work.

That’s the conclusion drawn in a report by workplace review site Indeed.com, which ranked Ireland fourth in a list of 25 countries where employees are happiest in their jobs. According to Indeed’s Job Happiness Index for 2016, only Colombia, Mexico and Russia have happier employees than Ireland does, with Brazil, Norway, Chile, New Zealand, Spain and Venezuela also commanding a place in the top ten.

Colombia Mexico Russia Ireland Brazil Norway Chile New Zealand Spain Venezuela Dublin, meanwhile, was top of the list of European cities for job satisfaction, ahead of London, Stockholm, Rome and Madrid, while carpenter, builder, secretary and childcare assistant were amongst the top ranking jobs for happiness in Ireland.

Dublin London Stockholm Rome Madrid Amsterdam Paris Brussels Vienna Berlin The list was based on analysis of five different categories that contribute to happiness in the workplace: work-life balance, quality of management, office culture, job security and advancement, and compensation and benefits. The study also found that a country’s national wealth had little to do with the job satisfaction of its workforce, something that is reflected with the inclusion of Japan and Germany on the list of the top ten countries for job unhappiness. Japan, as it turns out, ranked as the least satisfied country in four of the five categories listed above, the exception being compensation, where South Africans proved more dissatisfied than any other nation.
