Ireland will have its first ever female Taoiseach nominee on Wednesday

Carl Kinsella

Ruth Coppinger is set to make history tomorrow as the first woman TD ever to be nominated to the office of Taoiseach.

The Anti-Austerity Alliance/People Before Profit party is expected to nominate the Dublin West TD tomorrow.

The party have chosen to nominate someone for Taoiseach as an alternative the relatively centrist policies of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, the parties that usually bear our Taoisigh.

Coppinger has posted this message to Twitter in the past hour.

The party has previously nominated its own Richard Boyd-Barrett, who failed to be elected.
