Popular Irish chef shot dead outside restaurant in Kansas City

He was a prominent figure among the Irish community in the city.

The Tipperary man, who co-owned Brady & Fox Restaurant & Lounge in the Brookside area of the city, was reportedly killed following an armed confrontation while he was taking out rubbish.

According to the Kansas City Star, police officers responded to reports of a shooting at East 63rd Street and Rockhill Road around 5:18 p.m. Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the police department told the publication that upon arrival, officers discovered the victim unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In a post on Social Media, staff at Brady's restaurant said: "Our hearts are broken. There are no words to express our sadness, anger and frustration.

"Our community is with Shaun's family - forever.. We appreciate the outpouring of support, offers to help, and your love.

"Together we are united. Together we will grieve. Together we will heal.

"We ask that you show compassion and aid in our healing by respecting the privacy of Shaun's family."

Quinton Lucas, Mayor of Kansas City also paid tribute to Mr Brady, saying: "Like many, I was heartbroken to learn of the death of Shaun Brady.

"Having met him, I was inspired by the community he was building in Kansas City. I extend my deepest condolences to his family."

Originally from Nenagh, Brady owned and operated Brady & Fox Restaurant & Lounge with chef and friend Graham Farris.

The chef was a prominent figure in the city's Irish community and met his wife while she was travelling in Ireland, before moving to America.

A graduate of TU in Dublin, Brady worked in kitchens across Europe and Asia before heading to Chicago and relocating to Kansas City.
