The Taoiseach has paid tribute to the 55-year-old cameraman.

An Irish citizen and journalist, Pierre Zakrzewski, has been killed while reporting on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for Fox News.

In a statement, Fox News said the 55-year-old cameraman (pictured above on the left) was killed on Monday (14 March) in Horenka outside of Kyiv while news gathering with Fox News correspondent Benjamin Hall.

This was when their vehicle was “struck with incoming fire”.

According to the US outlet, Hall was injured and remains hospitalised in Ukraine.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to pay tribute to Zakrzewski.

“Deeply disturbed and saddened by the killing of Irish citizen and journalist Pierre Zakrzewski and one of his colleagues today,” he said.

“My thoughts are with their families, friends and fellow journalists.

“We condemn this indiscriminate and immoral war by Russia on Ukraine.”

President Michael D. Higgins also offered his deepest sympathies to the family of Zakrzewski.

“The indiscriminate killing of civilians, including journalists, must be brought to an end,” a statement from the President read.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian news website kp.ua is reporting that Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra Kuvshinova was also killed in the attack.

A war zone photographer, Fox News said Zakrzewski covered “nearly every international story” during his long tenure with the outlet.

It added that his “bravery, professionalism and work ethic were renowned among journalists”.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Pierre’s wife Michelle and family – please keep them all in your prayers,” Fox News said.

“And please continue to pray for Benjamin Hall, who remains hospitalised in Ukraine.”
