Irish citizen dies after stabbing in Morocco (Report)

A 40-year old man was reportedly arrested on suspicion of the murder of an Irish woman on Wednesday morning.

An Irish citizen has died as a result of a stabbing in the village of Taghazout, near the popular holiday resort of Agadir in Morocco.

According to reports, a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of the murder of an Irish woman on Wednesday morning.

A guard at an apartment complex in Taghazout raised the alarm after hearing screams coming from the Irish woman’s apartment.

Police found the victim bleeding as a result of stab wounds to the head; she was then taken to hospital where she died from her injuries.

The suspect was said to be in “an advanced state of intoxication” and has been placed in police custody.

The Department of Foreign Affairs are aware of the incident and are offering consular assistance; as there is no Irish embassy in Morocco, they are currently leasing with the Irish embassy in Madrid.
