An Irish couple has been found dead in Spain.

The bodies of a 45-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man were discovered yesterday, August 25, in a residential estate called Cap Blanc in Cullera, south of Valencia.

It is being reported that their bodies were found in a jacuzzi by their teenage children.

La Guardia Civil confirmed the death of the Irish couple to JOE, saying: "They were discovered by their two children, aged 14 and 15. Initial reports indicate that foul play was not the cause of death. A police investigation is underway."

According to several media outlets, a water sample from the jacuzzi has been collected and will undergo analysis at a specialist laboratory.

Social workers, supported by a psychologist, are looking after the couple’s children.

The family were reportedly staying in a rented house in the gated community, where the villas and apartments have views of the Mediterranean Sea.

It has not yet been confirmed how long the couple have been in Spain, if they were living there, or where in Ireland they are from.

Cap Blanc is a popular beach and residential area in Cullera, a town with a population of about 25,000.
