Someone has just got a whole lot richer today.

On Wednesday night, the Irish Lotto was won and the lucky new millionaire managed to bag themselves nearly €3 million in prize money.

The hunt is now on to find the person with that golden ticket, who has scooped a jackpot worth €2,951,364.

The winning ticket, the National Lottery revealed on Thursday morning, was sold in Coughlan’s Gala store on Quinlan Street in Limerick City.

So, whether you are a regular customer or you bought your Lotto ticket for Wednesday night while passing through the Treaty City, you could be in luck.

Store owner Sean Coughlan said this was the first time the shop has sold a winning jackpot ticket since it opened 15 years ago.

“I was so excited that I didn’t sleep a wink last night. You would think it was I who had won! This is a fantastic boost for the shop and the city. We are thrilled.”

He added: “Speculation is rife as to who the owner of the winning ticket might be. We have a lot of offices on our street so maybe it’s a work syndicate. With holidays it has been a quiet few months for us so this is the perfect way to start off the autumn season.”

The National Lottery is urging players to check their tickets in the hope of quickly finding the eighth Lotto jackpot winner of 2017.

The numbers in the main Lotto draw were: 1, 4, 5, 6, 18 47 and the bonus number was 35.
