The woman is said to have suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
An Irish nurse and mother living in Australia is in critical condition after being shot, according to reports.
In a statement, the Northern Territory Police in Australia said they are investigating a firearm death in Millner, a suburb in the city of Darwin on Tuesday (3 October).
Police said they received reports at 6.30pm of an injured woman and man at a property.
The 38-year-old woman was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old-man was declared deceased at the scene and a firearm was seized close to his person.

The Irish Independent reports that the woman is a nurse who is originally from Mayo and that she is the mother of a young child.
It also states that the woman remains in critical condition and that her family in the Irish county have been informed of the situation.
The Northern Territory Police have said it is believed that both the man and woman in Millner were known to one another.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey stated that multiple units were deployed to the scene. He also said that the Major Crime Squad will be thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and will be preparing a report for the coroner.
“At no stage was there a risk to the wider public,” Morrissey added.
