Irish people have developed something of a habit of earning huge sums of money from the Euromillions in recent years, but even those massive jackpots pale in comparison to what’s on offer in the US this weekend.

The biggest global jackpot of 2017, the Powerball, is creating massive waves stateside, having risen to $510M (approx. €436M) this weekend, after rolling over for over 19 draws since June. And it’s not going to stop rising until it’s won either.

Previously, Irish people could only stake their claim to win the jackpot if they had an Irish relative living in the US who could play on their behalf.

With the advent of licensed global lottery betting providers, headed by Lottoland, Irish consumers are now in a position to chase the biggest dream jackpots to be won.

The PowerBall jackpot on offer this weekend (the lottery is drawn every Thursday and Sunday at 5am Irish time) is over 12 times bigger than the current EuroMillions jackpot and over 51 times the size of the current Lotto jackpot to be won this Saturday night.

Not exactly small change, to be fair.

Commenting on the latest eye-watering US PowerBall jackpot, Lottoland Ireland Country Manager Graham Ross said: “This one just keeps rolling and it’s fair to say that US PowerBall madness no longer needs to refer to Trump’s show of ‘manliness’ against North Korea.

“We’re seeing huge numbers of Irish players sign up to our mobile app, especially new Android players, just to play PowerBall and with 436 million smackers on offer, it’s hardly a surprise. We’ll have to take the phones off the hook if one of our Irish players wins this one!”

Lottoland players have won over €400 million since its launch in 2013, including the largest individual lottery prize paid out last year at €22 million.
