A 28-year-old Irishman is under police guard at a hospital in Ibiza after he was apprehended for fleeing his bed in A&E while holding knives. At the time of the escape, he was naked and under the influence of illicit substances.

As reported by local newspaper Periodico de Ibiza, the man was originally arrested after “acting aggressively” towards local police officers in the area of Sant Antoni de Portmany.

The Irishman was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning following a police pursuit which ended with him falling on some rocks and hurting himself.

After being taken to the Can Misses Hospital for medical treatment, the Irishman then tried to flee from his bed in A&E while wearing just his hospital gown, which he lost while trying to evade the authorities.

During his escape from police custody in the hospital, he’s reported to have hit “at least three members of the staff – a security guard, a caretaker and an orderly”.

After fleeing, he was caught again and it’s reported that he was holding two knives at the time. The Irishman was given painkillers and readmitted to the hospital, where police are still guarding him.
