Double whammy on the employment front.

Ireland’s unemployment rate fell again in December, with this current decrease making it the largest in Europe.

According to the latest results from the Central Statistics Office, unemployment had dropped to 6.2% in December 2017, from 6.4% during the previous month and 7.5% in November 2016. These findings mean that there are now  146,700 people unemployed in Ireland, down from 149,000 in November 2017.

For males, the rate was 6.6%, which was down from 6.7% in the previous month, while for females, the rate was 5.8%, which was down from 6% in November.

The seasonally adjusted rate for persons aged between 15-24 years was 13.7%, which was down 0.3% from November.

This continued decrease in unemployment, according to the OECD, meant that Ireland has experienced the largest decline in Europe (0.2%) alongside Portugal, which currently has 8.2% unemployment.
