Met Eireann pinpoints exact date temperatures will soar to 22C

It’s been a long time coming.

After a long, long winter it looks like the spring weather is finally doing its thing and the temperatures are rising.

Met Éireann are giving the good news this week and have pinpointed when temperatures are set to soar to a sizzling 22C.

The forecaster has said that Saturday will be the hottest day of the week, with spells of sunshine and temperatures up to 22C inland with light winds.

The national forecast for the rest of the week is also pretty peachy, with long spells of sunshine and rising temperatures.

Weather expert Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather on X backed up the forecast by saying: “Warmer and dryer rest of week and into Saturday. Possibly turning back to cooler air next week but thankfully not a lot of rain showing at present.”

National weather forecast for the week ahead

Tuesday, May 7
Dry today with a good deal of cloud overall, but some limited sunny breaks occurring. Highest temperatures 14 to 18 degrees, coolest near coasts in the north and west, in a light and variable breeze.

Mainly dry with variable cloud and clear spells tonight. A few mist and fog patches may develop, mainly near the south coast. Lowest temperatures 5 to 10 degrees in light southerly or variable breezes.

Wednesday, May 8
Mainly dry across the midlands, south and east tomorrow, Wednesday, with a few sunny spells. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will develop in the west and northwest during the morning, becoming confined to the north in the evening. Highest temperatures 14 to 19 degrees in light southwest or variable breezes.

Becoming largely dry with clear spells developing Wednesday night. Lowest temperatures 7 to 10 degrees with light southerly breezes.

Thursday, May 9

Thursday will be mainly dry with sunny spells. Highest temperatures 17 to 20 degrees with light southerly breezes.

Mainly dry with clear spells overnight Thursday night. Lowest temperatures 9 or 10 degrees in light southerly breezes.

Friday, May 10
Mainly dry Friday with spells of sunshine. Highest temperatures 17 to 21 degrees with light southerly breezes. Lowest temperatures Friday night 8 to 10 degrees and staying mainly dry with light winds.

Saturday, May 11
Staying dry for Saturday with spells of sunshine and temperatures up to 22 degrees inland with light winds.

Turning a little cooler again for the extended outlook period.
