Shocking news as information emerges about a 57-year-old Irish woman, who was held against her will for three decades.

Shocking news is breaking this afternoon in London. The Met have announced that three ‘highly traumatised’ women have been freed from over three decades of captivity in a south London house.

Details are still emerging but the Met confirmed that one of the three women was a 57-year-old Irish woman, as well as a 67-year-old Malaysian woman and a 30-year-old British woman.

The women claimed they were held as slaves and their case was only uncovered after a woman contacted the Freedom Charity claiming to have been held prisoner for 30 years.

The charity contacted the police and the women were rescued. The Mirror carries quotes from Detective Inspector Kevin Hyland, from the Met’s Human Trafficking Unit: “We applaud the actions of Freedom Charity and are working in partnership to support these victims who appear to have been held for over 30 years.

“We have launched an extensive investigation to establish the facts surrounding these very serious allegations.”

He added: “A television documentary on forced marriages relating to the work of Freedom Charity was the catalyst that prompted one of the victims to call for help and led to their rescue.”
