An Irishman has been arrested in Sydney after boarding a plane to Dublin.
The man had been wanted in connection with a car crash in New South Wales that left two other young men seriously injured. CCTV footage from the scene appeared to show the driver surveying the scene before leaving on foot.
Two passengers were left in the wreckage, one of whom was described as “fighting for his life” by 7News Sydney. Another was described as “in serious condition.”
Reports emerged overnight that a 22-year-old Irishman had been arrested at Sydney Airport while trying to return to Ireland. Police suspect that the man was the driver of the vehicle. The man had managed to make it onto the plane before he was apprehended.
Police in Australia are still looking for the other man who left the scene of the crash, who is also believed to be Irish.

Footage from the crash shows the car screeching down the road before slamming into a parked minivan with so much force that the van actually moves back several feet.
The video also shows the driver running from the car, and a third passenger following closely behind.
