Ivor Callely jailed for five months for expenses fraud

Former junior minister Ivor Callely has been sentenced to five months in jail.

Former junior minister Ivor Callely has been sentenced to five months in jail.

The 56-year-old received the sentence today for fraudulently claiming mobile expenses at Leinster House between 2007 and 2009 while he was a Senatar. He admitted guilt back in March. He had faced six counts of using invoices from three phone companies to claim €4,207.45 using false instruments at Leinster House.

Judge Mary Ellen Ring jailed Callely this morning for five months on each of the four counts however the sentences will run concurrently.

Through his senior counsel Michael O’Higgins Callely apologised to his Dublin constituents.
