No big deal mate, just climate emergency…

Monday marked day two of the COP26 UN Climate Summit in Glasgow, with leaders from across the globe meeting in order to tackle the ongoing crisis that is climate emergency.

Stark warnings have been issued about the health of the planet, with world leaders told that there is simply no time left to waste in order to develop sustainable solutions for current and future generations.

It’s serious business and no mistake. Which is why the image of arguably the most powerful man in the world appearing to fall asleep during the opening speeches tends to leave a notable impression.

In a clip shared online by Washington Post journalist Zach Purser-Brown, US President Joe Biden was captured in a seeming state of slumber before being interrupted by an aide.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is expected to outline Ireland’s climate stance on Tuesday.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, meanwhile, spoke at the summit, noting that the event must lead to genuine and serious changes.

“If summits alone solve climate change then we wouldn’t have needed 25 previous COP summits to get where we are today,” said Johnson.

“But while COP26 will not be the end of climate change it can and it must mark the beginning of the end.”
