US teenager Kyle Rittenhouse, who shot and killed two men and injured a third last year in Wisconsin, has been acquitted on all charges.
The 18-year-old was arrested and charged following the incident in Kenosha in the summer of 2020 that occurred during a night of protests over the shooting of a black man, Jacob Blake, by a white police officer. During the demonstration, Rittenhouse shot and killed 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum and 26-year-old Anthony Huber and wounded 28-year-old Gaige Grosskreutz. The teen claimed the shootings were self-defense and that he feared for his life. Rittenhouse faced five charges, including intentional homicide, but on Friday (19 November) after three days of deliberations, a 12-person jury found him not guilty on all counts. The teenager broke down in tears as the verdict was readout. Earlier in the week, Governor of Wisconsin Tony Evers made a call for peace regardless of the outcome of the trial. “Kenoshans are strong, resilient, and have worked hard to heal and rebuild together over the past year,” he wrote on Twitter. “Any efforts to sow division and hinder that healing are unwelcome in Kenosha and Wisconsin. “Regardless of the outcome in this case, I urge peace in Kenosha and across our state.” https://twitter.com/GovEvers/status/1460666223356645376Plane crashes into tallest building in Beijing
