Gardaí investigating after fire incident at second KBC bank in Dublin

It marks the second fire at a KBC bank in 48 hours.

Gardaí are investigating a fire which took place at a KBC bank premises in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident took place at the branch on Main Street in Swords at approximately 5.18am on Saturday 22 December with Gardaí and members of the Dublin Fire Brigade attending the scene shortly after.

It appears from initial investigations that a front window of the premises was broken and a fire started.

Though nobody was injured in the incident, extensive damage has been caused to the inside of the building.

The scene in Swords is currently preserved for a technical examination and investigations are ongoing.

It follows an incident of “criminal damage by fire” at a KBC premises on Sandwith Street in Dublin 2 on Thursday 20 December.

That occurred between 11pm and midnight which Dublin Fire Brigade extinguishing a fire in the lobby of the premises.

It was further confirmed that the building’s windows were also damaged in the incident.

KBC Bank, which is based on Sandwith Street, are the bank at the centre of the eviction of two men in Strokestown, Roscommon earlier this month, which preceded an assault on security personnel who were involved in the eviction.

Several arrests followed.

The McGann family, who were evicted from the house in Roscommon, have issued a statement condemning violence.
