Man aged in his 80s dies following three-car collision in Kildare

A second man is reported to be in a serious condition.

A man in his 80s has died following a fatal three-car collision that took place in Castledermot, Kildare on Wednesday morning, 20 October.

Shortly after 7am, Gardaí responded to the incident that occurred between Junction 4 and Junction 5 on the M9 southbound.

The man in his 80s, who had been driving one of the cars involved, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny in a serious condition before passing away from his injuries.

Another man, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital where his condition has been described as serious.

Finally, a woman aged in her 30s was also taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment. Her injuries are not understood to be life threatening.

Gardaí closed the road off in order to perform a technical examination, though it has since reopened to traffic.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly looking to speak with any road users who were travelling on the road around the time of the incident and anyone who may have dash cam footage that they can make available.
