Gardaí previously stated they had been keeping an open mind regarding the investigation.

Two people have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into the murder of Lisa Thompson, whose body was found in unexplained circumstances earlier this year.

Shortly before 3.30pm on Tuesday 10 May, Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of the body of a woman in a house in Sandyhill Gardens in Ballymun, Dublin 11.

The woman, named as 52-year-old Lisa Thompson, had been the subject of a serious physical assault and had suffered significant injuries as a result.

Gardaí previously stated that they were keeping an open mind with regards to the “violent and traumatic” murder.

“Lisa was a 52-year-old woman, she was well-known in her local community, which is shocked over the violent and traumatic death of Lisa,” said Superintendent Darren McCarthy of Ballymun Garda Station.

“An Garda Síochána continues to investigate all the circumstances of this murder and we continue to examine all lines of enquiry and have an open mind as to the motive for this attack at this time.”

Today – Monday 11 July – two months on, Gardaí arrested a man and a woman, both aged in their 30s, in connection with Thompson’s murder.

The man and woman have both been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The pair are being held at separated undisclosed Garda Stations.

Investigations are ongoing.
