Looks like the ban on pubs opening on Good Friday won’t be lifted this year after all

Maybe next year folks

Maybe next year folks.

Pubs around the country will continue to be a no-go area on Good Friday this year, after it emerged that a potential ban on them opening will not be lifted in time for April 3.

There had been speculation last week that the ban would be lifted after meetings held between Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald and The Licensed Vintners Association and the Vintners Federation of Ireland.

Today, however, Fitzgerald said that while the matter was under consideration, that it would not be visited until later in the year when the sale of alcohol bill is being finalised.

Breathe a sigh of relief off-licenses of Ireland, your booming Holy Thursday business is set to continue… for this year at least.
