The amount of money won in Lotto jackpots by every county in the last 30 years

It’s been a good run for Dublin, not such a good run for Longford.

As the National Lottery approaches its 3000^th draw 30 years after it was first launched, data has been released revealing the amount of money claimed in Lotto jackpots in every county in the Republic of Ireland since 1998. As you would expect, Dublin is way ahead of the chasing pack, with 572 Lotto jackpot wins bringing in close to €1 billion in the last 30 years, or €856,434,245 to be exact. In total, 1,738 jackpot winners have shared prizes exceeding €4.4 billion between them, with jackpot winners from Cork (€245,936,167), Galway (€137,955,578), Donegal (€116,006,844) and Mayo (€103,718,494) faring pretty well over the years. At the other end of the scale, it’s been fairly barren in Longford, where the least amount of money has been claimed in Lotto jackpot wins (€13,288,028) and Leitrim, where there has been the fewest amount of jackpot winners since 1988 (9). Ireland’s first Lotto jackpot winner was Donegal woman, Brigid McGrath, who scooped £147,059 (punts) in the first Lotto draw in 1988. Ireland’s first ever Lotto millionaire was Rita Power from Ballinasloe in Galway, who won £1,200,937 (punts) in May 1989, while the biggest ever lotto jackpot was claimed by the Dan Morrissey Syndicate from Carlow, who won a massive jackpot prize of €18.9 million in June 2008.
