Storm Emma has almost brought public transport to a complete standstill.

Luas services were suspended today at midday.

Both the Red and Green Line services will not operate again today or Friday 2 March.

In a statement, it was stated that a meeting is scheduled for midday on Friday to assess the impact of the severe weather on the Luas network with an updated to be published at 1pm on the timelines associated with the resumption of services.

The statement went on to note that although some trams might be seen operating on the lines later today, tonight and Friday, this is only for operational reasons as it reduces the freezing effect on the overhead power lines and will assist with the recovery of the service after Storm Emma.

Dublin Bus has also confirmed that no services will be running on Friday 2 March due to the Status Red warning that is in place nationwide today and tomorrow.

In its own statement, Dublin Bus said:

“Due to the red weather warning in place until 15.00 tomorrow for blizzard conditions and further snow accumulations, combined with anticipated road conditions, Dublin Bus will not be in a position to operate any services tomorrow, Friday 2 March.”

The service had been in operation yesterday (28 February), however it called a halt to all services at 7pm.

Similarly, Bus Éireann has cancelled all services today, although it has not confirmed whether it will re-open tomorrow.

Any decisions made regarding its services on Saturday will be made following advice from Met Éireann and the National Emergency Co-ordination Committee.
