Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Lyra McKee.

A detective from the PSNI has spoken of a new breed of terrorism that is being found in the streets of Northern Ireland.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday morning, Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy, of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, described the incident as terrorism, and voiced his concerns about the nature of this crime.

According to ITV, Murphy said: “My broader concern is that what we are seeing is a new breed of terrorist coming through the ranks and that for me is a very worrying situation.”

He also confirmed that two men, aged 18 and 19, arrested in connection to the murder of Ms McKee were being held under the Terrorism Act.

Vice President of the European Parliament Mairead McGuinness also described the incident as “more than a wake-up call”.

Investigations are said to still be ongoing, while the tributes for Lyra McKee continue to pour in from all over the world, including from former US President Bill Clinton.
