It is believed the victim was Irish, but not originally from Cork.

Gardai in Mallow are investigating the death of a male that occurred following an altercation at approximately 8.30pm on Thursday 12 July at Bridge Street in Mallow. A male in his 20s was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination. RTE News are reporting that the victim was involved in an altercation with at least one other man during which he sustained serious injuries and that the victim was Irish but not from Cork. Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
