A man in his 20s has died after a fatal single-car crash in Westmeath

The driver of the car, a man in his teens, was arrested at the scene.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal single-car road traffic incident that occurred at approximately 10:30am on Monday, 19 July.

A man aged in his 20s has died after the crash which took place in the Lough Ennell area of Mullingar, County Westmeath.

The man, who was an occupant of the vehicle involved, was taken to Tallaght Hospital in critical condition where he has since passed away.

The driver of the car, a man in his late teens, was arrested at the scene for road traffic offences.

The teen has since been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí in Mullingar are now appealing for anyone who was in the Tudenham Park and Lough Ennell areas between 10:00am and 11:00am on the 19 of July and who may have any information or footage (including dash cam) to come forward.
