Man in his 80s dies after three-car crash in Galway

Two other people were also injured in the crash.

A man in his 80s has died following a three-car crash in Galway on Thursday (20 January).


The collision occurred on the M6 westbound between Junction 18 and Junction 19 at around 2pm.

The man in his 80s was the driver of one of the cars and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 20s were taken to University Hospital Galway to be treated for their injuries.

They are understood to be non-life-threatening.


At the time of writing on Thursday evening, the road is currently closed to allow for a technical examination to be undertaken by Forensic Collision Investigators.

Local diversions have been put in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward and any road users with video footage are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
