Man arrested in Cavan for coughing at a Garda

The man stated that he had coronavirus.

Three men were arrested in the early hours of this morning following “a number of public order incidents” in Ballinagh, Cavan.

Among the three men who were arrested was a man in his early 20s who is accused of coughing at a member of An Garda Síochána, and stating that he had coronavirus. According to a spokesperson for the Gardaí, the man has been charged in connection with that behaviour in addition to the public order offences.

No details have been released pertaining to the other public order offences.

A man in his late teens has also been charged with public order offences while a man in his 40s was released with an adult caution.

The two younger men will will appear before a special sitting of Cavan Circuit Court on Sunday afternoon (12 April).
