Man arrested in Dublin in relation to alleged bribery of Nigerian public officials

A multi-agency operation was carried out on Monday.

A man has been arrested following an investigation into the alleged bribery of Nigerian public officials by Irish nationals.

Detectives attached to the Anti-Bribery and Corruption Unit of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau carried out an operation in south Dublin on Monday morning, 20 December.

The operation was part of an international investigation in cooperation with Interpol and Nigerian authorities investigating the alleged bribery claims.

The arrested man, who is aged in his 70s, has been detained at a south Dublin Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

He was arrested for the offence of conspiracy, contrary to Section 71 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2006.

Investigations are ongoing at this time.
