Man arrested after shots fired at Garda patrol car

The incident took place during the summer.

Gardaí investigating a shooting incident that took place during the summer have arrested a man in connection with the investigation.

The incident took place shortly after 2.30am on Saturday, 24 July.

At that time, a marked Garda car with unarmed uniformed personnel was on patrol in the Rossfield area of Tallaght in Dublin.

The Gardaí patrol unit subsequently came across three men, one of whom was in possession of a handgun and another who was in possession of a baseball bat.

The man armed with the handgun proceeded to discharge a number of shots towards the Garda patrol car, with one of the shots directly hitting the vehicle.

All three men then fled the scene. No Gardaí were injured in the exchange.

On Wednesday (1 December), Gardaí arrested a man in his early 20s in relation to the incident.

He is currently being detained at Tallaght Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Investigations are ongoing.
