Man arrested after Garda was stabbed in head and chest in Oranmore

The incident happened around midday on Friday.

A man has been arrested following an incident in Galway which left a Garda member with serious injuries.

The incident, which happened on Renville Road, Oranmore, County Galway at 12pm, involved a member of the Gardaí receiving lacerations to his head and chest following an altercation.

The Garda was treated for his injuries at the scene before being removed to Galway University Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect, a man in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and is being detained at Mill Street Garda Station in Galway.
