Man arrested after staging a robbery armed with a handgun and crowbar in Clare

The man who robbed the shop threatened staff with what is believed to be a handgun.

Gardaí have arrested and charged a man in relation to a robbery that took place in Clare last week.

Shortly after 1am on 19 April, a man – armed with what Gardaí believe to be a handgun and a crowbar – entered a shop on Gort Road in Ennis.

The man threatened staff and the one customer in the shop at the time and demanded cash from the till.

A staff member handed over the contents of the till and the man then left the shop. No one was injured during the incident.

Uniform and detective Gardaí from Ennis Garda Station later attended the scene and begun an investigation into the robbery.

A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested on 26 April and brought to Ennis Garda Station, where he was detained.

He has since been charged and was due to appear before Ennis District Court on Wednesday morning (28 April)

The man is also charged in connection with an attempted burglary at a petrol station on Quin Road in Ennis, which also occurred on 19 April.
