Man charged in connection with the murder of Ashling Murphy

A man has been charged in connection with the murder of Ashling Murphy.

He has been named as Jozef Puska, a 31-year-old with an address at Lynally Grove, Tullamore.

Ms Murphy, a 23-year-old primary school teacher, was attacked and killed while out jogging along the canal bank at Cappincur in Tullamore, Offaly at around 4pm last Wednesday.

In a statement this Wednesday (19 January), a Garda spokesperson said that the man arrested on Tuesday has been charged.

He appeared before a special sitting of Tullamore District Court this evening at 8.15pm.

Meanwhile, the second male arrested earlier on Wednesday under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939 has been released without charge from Garda custody.

The spokesperson said a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
