Man confronted by occupants during aggravated burglary of house arrested in Kildare

A woman was left injured during the incident.

A man has been arrested after being confronted by the occupants of a house during an aggravated burglary in Kildare.

Gardaí are investigating the incident that occurred in Athy during the early hours of Thursday morning (29 July).

At around 5am, a man – armed with what is believed to be a knife – entered the house.

The occupants of the house awoke and confronted the intruder, who injured a woman in the house while trying to escape.

A Garda spokesperson said the woman received medical treatment at the scene and that a number of items were taken from the property.

Gardaí then searched the scene and surrounding property and arrested one man, fitting the description of the suspect.

He was conveyed to Kildare Garda station, where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A number of items of property were also located.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
