A young man has died in a car crash in Waterford

Gardaí are investigating after a man died in a road collision in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána has confirmed that a young man died after a car crash at roughly 4.30am on Saturday morning (8 November), on the N25 at Bawnard, Ardmore, Waterford.

A man in his 20s, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene after his car collided with a lorry. His body remains at the scene. The male driver of the lorry, who is in his late 40s, was removed to University Hospital Waterford with non life threatening injuries.

Neither party has been publicly named following the incident.

The stretch of road where the incident occurred is currently closed off for investigation, as of 9.30am on Saturday morning.

This stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Witnesses who may have driven on the N25 between the hours of 4am and 5am from Youghal bridge to Dungarvan, and who may have dash cams in their vehicles have been asked to contact Dungarvan Garda Station on 058 – 48600, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
