Man dies and three others injured after fire at apartment block in Cavan

Very sad news.

A man has died following a fire at an apartment in Cavan.

The alarm was raised shortly before 8pm when smoke was spotted coming from an apartment building off Main Street, Cavan Town.

The fire was brought under control and the body of a male (understood to be aged 40 years) was discovered in the apartment.  It’s understood two firemen were also treated for minor injuries.

Fire services attended at the scene and two adults and a child were rescued from the building. They were taken to Cavan General Hospital where they were treated for smoke inhalation.

The body of the deceased remains at the scene, he has yet to be identified and Gardaí say this process may take some time.

The scene is currently preserved for forensic and technical examination and the local Coroner has been notified.

The cause of the fire has yet to be established but foul play is not suspected at this time.
