Man dies after assault in Clare

A man in his 30s has been pronounced dead after what the Gardaí are calling a “fatal assault” in Ennis, Clare.

According to a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, Gardaí were called to the scene of an incident between two men. One of the men was seriously injured when Gardaí arrived at the scene, and died before being put in an ambulance.

The incident occurred at around 3pm today (14 April) at Gordon Drive in the town.

Gardaí say that the deceased was removed to the Mortuary in University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will take place tomorrow morning (15 April) by State Pathologist Dr. Margaret Bolster.

A second man, also in his 30s, has also been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently detained at Ennis Garda Station.

Gardaí are now appealing to any persons who were in the area of Cloughleigh Estate/Gordon Drive, Ennis this afternoon between 2.30p.m. and 3.30p.m. and who can assist them in this investigation, and also to any road users who may have camera footage that would assist Gardaí, they can contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
