The festival has cancelled further bull-running events.
A man has died after being gored at a bull-running festival in eastern Spain this weekend.
The incident represents the first related fatality in the country since bull-running events returned following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions over the summer.
According to Reuters, the 55-year-old man bled to death from his injuries, having been “repeatedly” attacked by a bull during the festival in Onda.
The man, who has not been named by authorities, passed away in a hospital in the nearby town of Villarrreal.
It has been reported that a wound in his left thigh perforated his artery, and that he also suffered a head wound.
The festival, initially due to conclude on Sunday, has cancelled all further bull-running activities.
Both bull-running and bull-fighting remain a source of heated debate in Spain, with many calling for the practices to cease due to animal cruelty and the associated dangers to those participating.
