A man has died as a result of serious head injuries sustained in Dublin last Thursday, 11 November. Shortly before 8pm on Thursday, Gardaí were called to a green area beside Mellowes Avenue in Dublin 11 where a member of the public reported having discovered a male individual with serious injuries. He was subsequently brought to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown in a critical condition. Following an update from An Garda Síochána on Monday afternoon (15 November), the man has passed away as a result of his injuries. The office of the State Pathologist has been informed and the man's remains will be removed to the city morgue in Whitehall where a post-mortem examination will take place on Tuesday. The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of a resultant Garda investigation. While An Garda Síochána has stated that the injuries suffered by the deceased are "as yet unexplained", RTÉ has reported that he was found with a gunshot wound to the head. An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to anyone who was present in the vicinity of Mellowes Avenue, Mellowes Road, Kildonan Road or Cardiffsbridge Road between 7.30pm and 8pm on Thursday, 11 November, to come forward. Gardaí are particularly keen to speak with any person that may have video footage that could assist in their investigation.
