Man (70s) dies following two-vehicle road traffic collision in Offaly

The incident occurred on Monday morning.

A man has died following a fatal road traffic collision in Offaly on Monday morning, 14 February.

The incident took place on the N52 at Bunaterin, Tullamore.

At approximately 10.10am, a two-vehicle collision occurred.

The driver and sole occupant of the first vehicle, a man aged in his early 70s, was fatally injured.

His body has been removed from the scene to Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore where a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle involved in the crash – a man aged in his mid-30s – received non life-threatening injuries.

He was later taken to Midlands Regional Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed off to traffic to allow Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct an examination of the scene but has since reopened to traffic.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling in the area at the time of the incident on Monday morning who may have camera footage – including dash-cam – are asked to make contact with investigating Gardaí.
