Gardaí have commenced a murder investigation.

A man has died following a shooting incident that occurred in Dublin earlier this year.

41-year-old Gary Carey was being treated in hospital for serious injuries he received during the incident that took place in the underground car park of a premises on the South Circular Road in Kilmainham on 24 June.

However, a Garda spokesperson confirmed in a statement that he passed away at St James’s Hospital on Friday (5 August).

Multiple reports state that Mr. Carey had previously been targeted in other shooting incidents.

The office of the State Pathologist and the local coroner have been notified of the death and a post-mortem examination has been arranged.

This is as investigating Gardaí have commenced a murder investigation and have renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly appealing to road users with camera footage, including dashcam footage, from the South Circular Road in the Kilmainham area on the morning of Friday, 24 June 2022 to make it available to them.
