Man dies in Clare

Very sad news.

A man in his 30s has died after he was swept out to sea while walking along the Clare shoreline on Sunday afternoon.

It’s understood a major search and rescue operation was launched after the alarm was raised after 2pm on Sunday.

The Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard, the Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter, the Aran Islands RNLI lifeboat, the National Ambulance Service and Gardaí were involved in the search.

The man was believed to be picking seaweed with friends when he lost his footing and entered the water.

His body was recovered from the water shortly after 3pm and removed to University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
