The people of Washington, Illinois are still trying to put their lives back together after a tornado hit their area at the weekend.

One of the victims was Jon Byler Dann. Dann and his four children made it into the basement to wait out the storm but their dog Maggie refused to leave her kennel.

When the storm cleared, Dann emerged to find his home gone and he assumed that Maggie had also died. Then, while searching the rubble where his house used to be, they heard some faint barking.

We’ll let the pictures take over here…

Maggie was seen by a vet and after getting some water she was taken off to be treated for some broken bones and some other injuries. The 11-year-old is expected to make a full recovery.

As Dann says:  “I’m very thankful and blessed to have my wife and my children. And finding my dog today was just unreal.”
