Man in Skerries arrested for assault and possession of knives and a hatchet

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A man in Skerries has been arrested for assault, as well as possession of knives and a hatchet.

Gardaí have arrested and charged a male, aged in his 30s, after an incident of assault and endangerment which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 5am, Gardaí attached to Balbriggan Garda Station responded to a report of a public order incident.

On arrival at the scene, Gardaí observed a male in front of a house in possession of a hatchet and two knives.

The male proceeded to threaten Gardaí with the weapons and subsequently smashed a window of the patrol car. No injuries were reported.

Additional Garda units arrived at the scene and apprehended the male. He was then arrested and taken to Balbriggan Garda Station.

The man in question is due to appear before the Criminal Court of Justice on Wednesday morning.
