Gardaí in Tallaght are investigating an incident of serious assault.

Gardaí were called to an incident in Killinarden shortly after 11pm on Saturday night, after a 34-year-old man was discovered with serious head injuries.

In a statement issued on Sunday morning, An Garda Síochána said they are looking for witnesses and information relating to the assault.

The man was found by a passer-by who raised the alarm. After Gardaí arrived to the scene, the man was taken to the nearby Tallaght Hospital where he is understood to be in critical condition.

The scene of the assault is currently preserved for examination and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses. An incident room has been established at Tallaght Station.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Tallaght Garda Station 01-6666000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

This assault follows a separate incident in Navan in the early hours of Saturday morning, where a young man was also left in critical condition following a violent crime.
