Manhattan Peanuts to challenge Luas Green Line extension in court

The plan would see the line extended to Finglas with four additional stops.

The extension plan, which would see a 4 kilometer stretch from Broombridge to Charlestown got planning approval in October 2025.

It would see four additional stops added to the line by 2031, including St Alena's, Finglas Village, St Margaret's Road, and Charlestown, in an aim to improve connectivity to North Dublin's Finglas area.

Additionally, the plan would include new bridges, integration with bus services, as well as upgrades to parks such as Tolka Valley, and enhanced pedestrian and cycle facilities. 

However, the company behind producer Manhattan Peanuts has applied for a judicial review over their concerns.

Firethorn Limited submitted to the project's original planning application expressing its concern over the impact Luas Finglas may have on the land surrounding its factory on McKee Avenue.

The company said in the application that losing the land beside its site would impact both accessibility and potential for development.

Manhattan Peanuts said in a statement that it recognises the importance of improving public transport in the area and welcomes the extension, but added that it relates to a “very specific and limited concern” over how much land would be taken from the rear of the site.

While the company urged their support for the transport plan, they believe agreed solutions were not reflected in the final approval.

The case is set to be mentioned in court on January 12.
