The Sinn Féin leader has thanked the public for their support.
Tributes are pouring in following the death of Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald’s father, Patrick Bernard ‘Paddy’ McDonald.
The politician took to social media on Sunday morning (4 August) to announce the news of her father’s passing and to thank the public for their support.
Mr. McDonald died last Monday (29 July) “peacefully in the wonderful care of Caritas Nursing Home, Merrion Road”, his RIP.ie notice reads.
“Paddy will be dearly missed by his beloved partner Shirley, sisters Nora and Joan, all his family and friends,” it also states.

Several have taken to the RIP.ie page for Mr. McDonald, who worked as a builder, to leave condolence messages.
“Paddy McDonald, your heart was made of gold, your laugh lit up the room and you were always the kind gentleman,” one person wrote.
“It is such a pleasure to be able to call you our beloved friend and we will never forget you.”
Another said: “Sorry for your loss Shirley. Many a good time we had.”
A third wrote: “Condolences, Mary Lou and family on the death of your Dad.. May he rest in peace.”
The funeral mass for Mr. McDonald will take place on Tuesday morning, 6 August at 11.30am at The Church of St. Paul of the Cross, Mount Argus, D6W H677.
This will be then followed by cremation at The Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome Crematorium at 1pm.
